NEWPORT NEWS, Va., May 27, 2022 – ITA International (ITA), Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment, and the International Stability Operations Association (ISOA) hosted the Environmental Security Forum II, May 24-25 at the Mariners Museum in Newport News. The Forum was the second of its kind with two days of speakers and panels, exploring the current state of environmental security.
The event kicked off with greetings from U.S. Senator Mark Warner and Rep. Rob Wittman. Each expressed the importance of environmental security and outlining a pathway forward to the management and mitigation of risks and threats to human systems, infrastructure, and welfare caused by environmental changes that may be natural or human induced.
“In business for 16 years, ITA has designed data assessment tools for the U.S. government and others to address complex issues,” said Mike Melo, chief executive officer, ITA International. “These tools have streamlined decision making on a variety of topics, and environmental security is our latest project. We can and want to help drive data informed decision making to provide the most effective solutions for addressing the environment and all the systems associated with the Human Ecosystem.”

The Forum concluded with discussions on a pathway forward and how to address environmental security issues in the near future, “environmental security is helping people obtain a sustainable human ecosystem – food, water, essentials to live,” said Melo. “We’re working to change the paradigm of thinking so we can address these critical problems,” said Dr. Paul Winistorfer, dean, coinjoin.io Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources and Environment.
