NEWPORT NEWS, Va. Oct. 4, 2022 – Over the last five years, ITA International (ITA) has continued to increase the use of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs. SBIRs are highly competitive opportunities that are used across various government agencies to aid small businesses in performing experimental or developmental work.
Chief Executive Officer of ITA Mike Melo shared, “The U.S. Government’s support of R&D [Research & Development] focused specifically on DoD [Department of Defense] requirements will help ITA offer not only, innovative solutions and technology but also a contracting solution through SBIRs, which will allow our customers to become more agile and responsive to the warfighters requirements.”
This program was created to support excellence and technological innovation through the investment of federal research funds in critical American priorities to build a strong national economy. There are three different phases of a SBIRs. Phase I determines the scientific and technical merit and feasibility of a proposed effort. Phase II is typically a demonstration phase in which prototypes are built and tested. Finally, Phase III is work that derives from, extends, or completes a SBIR Phase I or II effort.
As a company, we are currently supporting 75 contracts in Phase I, 28 in Phase II, and our ITA SBIR technologies have reached Phase III, 54 times. This has resulted in a total of 157 total SBIR contracting actions, totaling up to about, $91.4 million worth of government research. Most recently, ITA was awarded a SBIR phase III, five-year $100 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to implement data driven tools to enhance warfighting, training and decision-making for the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense and other federal agencies.
SBIR Program Manager, Meredith Cline stated, “As a company we are excited to continue improving our technical solutions and help customers make data informed decisions, using the SBIRs program.”
